He married Catherine "Aggie" Staab on Nov. 18, 1953, in Catharine. She preceded him in death Nov. 28, 2008.
He attended Walker Grade School and was a graduate of Gorham High School. He was a farmer and worked 20 years for the United States Soil Conservation Service, out of the Hays office. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a member and past commander of the Victoria Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1751, St. Ann Catholic Church, Walker, Victoria 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Assembly.
Survivors include three sons, Galen Goetz, Olathe, Keith Goetz, of the home, and Brian Goetz, Wichita; a brother, Marvin Goetz, Victoria; and three grandchildren, Adam Goetz, Kasey Goetz and Katie Goetz.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Donald Goetz.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Ann Catholic Church, Walker; burial in St. Ann Cemetery, Walker, with military honors by Victoria VFW Post No. 1751. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at Cline's Mortuary, 412 Main Victoria, KS 67671, and from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the church. A Knights of Columbus/VFW rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday, followed by a vigil at 8 p.m., both at the mortuary. The 4th Degree Knights of Columbus will stand honor guard from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to St. Ann Catholic Church or Masses in care of the mortuary.
