Helen (Scherr) Kremer, the daughter of Anton and Mary Eva (Eisenzimmer) Scherr was born June 6, 1919 in Rugby, North Dakota. She died at the age of 88 years on Friday, October 12, 2007 at the Heart of America Long Term Care Center in Rugby.

Helen was raised in the rural Balta home of her parents, who had emigrated there from Odessa, Russia. She attended Brazil country school and completed her education in the Balta School. On October 17, 1939, she was united in marriage to Joe Kremer at Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Balta. Following their marriage, the couple farmed in the Karlsruhe area before returning to the Scherr family farm, where they would raise their family and farm until retiring to Rugby in 1975. A loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker, Helen was dedicated to the welfare of her husband and family. She especially enjoyed caring for her grandchildren while they were growing up.

She was a former member of Mount Carmel Catholic Church and a member of Little Flower Catholic Church in Rugby, a member of the confraternity of Christian Mothers and the Rugby Court of Catholic Daughters. In her quiet times, she enjoyed gardening, sewing and crocheting.

Survivors include her husband, Joe of Rugby; 2 sons, Howard (Linda) of Fargo and Ronald (Wanda) of Orrin; 5 daughters, Janice (Roy) Pfeifer and Bernadette (Nick) Senger, all of Rugby, Dorothy (Joe) Aberle of Surrey, Lillian (Joe) Bachmeier of Havre, MT and Marlys (Paul) Bohrer of Fargo; 32 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; a sister, Catherine Wentz of Minnewaukan; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by one son, Joseph (1973); a great-grandson, James McKinney; 2 sisters, Mary Kremer and Ann Kremer; 3 brothers, Wendelin, Peter and Martin; and her parents.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 16th at the Little Flower Catholic Church in Rugby with burial in the Church Cemetery. Fr. Ross Lafromboise, Celebrant; Msgr. Fr. Joseph Senger & Fr. Tom Graner, Concelebrants.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Anderson Funeral Home in Rugby. There will be no reviewal in the Church on Tuesday.

A rosary and vigil prayer service will begin at 7:00 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.
