Dara "Dan" Callahan
Dara "Dan" Callahan, 89, of 805 Jarrett Street, passed away early Friday morning, May 14, 2010 at Hospice Home of Rockingham County in Wentworth. A graveside service will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, May 16, at Danview Cemetery with the Reverend Bob Johnson and Bill Gillispie, nephew of Mr. Callahan. A native of Rockingham County, Mr. Callahan was born July 7, 1920, son of the late Everette and Annie Meredith Callahan. He was a member of Draper Christian Church. Mr. Callahan was a direct decendent of Jabez B. Callahan, CSA and thus a member of Sons of Confederate Soldiers. He greatly enjoyed banjo music. Surviving is his niece, Linda Gibbs of Burlington; his nephew, Zane Gibbs of Elon; and several other nieces and nephews; his Draper Christian Church family; and special friends, Clarence Hale, Kermit Willis, and Bud Reynolds. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ola Armstrong Callahan; sisters, Thelma C. Gibbs Hundley and Fuchsia C. Jones; and brothers, Roy, Costa, Earl, Harry, and Tom Callahan. The family will receive friends Saturday evening 6 - 8 PM at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
