Joan Dorsey Bumgarner, 77, a lifelong Coffeyville resident, passed away Thursday, May 13, 2010 at her home.

She was born December 26, 1932 at Coffeyville to Walter and Billie Marie (Barrett) Dorsey. Joan grew up and attended school in Coffeyville, graduating from Field Kindley High School, and Coffeyville Junior College, before attending Tulsa University. While attending TU she was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority.

On January 4, 1953 she married Clarke Bumgarner at Coffeyville. Following their marriage they made their home in Davenport, Iowa while Clarke attended Palmer College of Chiropractic. After completing his education they returned to Coffeyville where Clarke operated the Chiropractic Arts Center for many years and Joan was Office Manager.

Joan was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she was longtime Sunday School Teacher, and served as a Deacon and Elder. She was also a member of PEO Chapter EZ, the Monday Night Bridge club for over 50 years, Mothers Study Club, Golden Hour Book Review, Art and Literature Club, Cub Scout Den Mother, Girl Scout Leader, and active in the Humane Society.

Survivors include her husband, Clarke Bumgarner, D.C. of the home; three daughters, Diane Gorman of Pleasant Hill, MO; Julie Kuehn of Coffeyville, and Mary Ann Baker and husband Greg of Crofton, MD; one son, David Bumgarner, D.C. and wife Lynn of Coffeyville; twelve grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, John Dorsey.

Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 17, 2010 in the First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Diane Massey officiating. Burial will follow in Restlawn Memorial Park in Coffeyville.

Friends may call on Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville; the casket will be closed at 5:00 p.m.

The family suggests memorials in Joan's memory to the First Presbyterian Church Stained Glass Window Fund; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
