Shirley Powell Kennedy

My dearest beloved wife, mother and friend, departed this earth on Saturday, May 15, 2010, to be with her mother and father, Robert and Elsie Powell, and other loved ones in heaven.

She was born March 21, 1942, in Ivy, Virginia.

She had been fighting stroke, kidney failure and heart disease since November 2001.

The following is her self written obituary.

I am survived by my husband, Les Kennedy of 50 years; a daughter, Teresa Black and her husband, William "W.A.", of Crozet; two grandsons, Shane and Kyle Black, who are the love of my life; two sisters, Laura Kettler of Gainesville, Georgia and Patricia "Pat" Hager of Las Vegas, Nevada; one niece, Debbe of New York; three nephews, Jeff Kettler of Georgia, Timmy Hager and Dustin Hager of New York.

I also have a sister-in-law, Millie Morris of Charlottesville whom was like a sister.

I would like to thank all my doctors, the sixth and seventh floor staff at Martha Jefferson Hospital.

I loved playing Bingo with my close friend, Effie Nash, Jean Burnett, Sharon Hutchinson and Barbara Fisher.

My wishes are to have a graveside service 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at Holly Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Kennedy request was for donations to be made to The , 404 8th Street, NE, Charlottesville, VA 22902, or The American Fund, 6110 Executive Blvd., Rockville, MD 20852, or The American Heart and Stroke Association, Serving Virginia, P.O. Box 182441, Columbus, OH 43218-2441.
