Puffy was a tiny black and white kitten, abandoned by his mother in a garage. We bottle fed him until he was able to eat solid food. Puffy will always hold a very special place in my heart because he was my very first pet.

He loved to jump on top of everything. He jumped onto my mom's dresser and broke a one-of-a-kind memorial plate that had been hand-made for my mom's wedding. He was often found on top of the upper kitchen cabinets. This jumping habit ultimately led to his untimely death. He had jumped onto the kitchen counter and was found licking the butter from a piece of toast and a renter in our home threw him down the basement stairs as a result. I was not told of this horrible incident until many years later by my mother. The renter was thrown out of the house immediately.

I was originally told Puffy had gotten outside and had run away. We made up REWARD notices and I searched the neighborhood and hung the notices up in every nearby apartment building. Although this effort was futile because Puffy was gone forever, someone brought another black and white abandoned kitty to my door to see if it was my missing cat. It was not, but we ended up keeping this cat, who we named Fluffy. So, a tragic ending for one pet turned into a happy beginning for another.

May you rest in peace, my precious little kitty. You may be gone, but you are not forgotten.
