Obituary in the Milan Press, March 12, 1896:
Mrs. Ann Wood departed this life Friday, March 6, 1896, aged 60 years. The deceased was born in Ohio; came with her husband to Kansas in the early seventies, locating in their present home. She was the mother of four children, two sons and two daughters, three of whom survive her. Her husband preceded her to that home beyond the skies thirteen years ago; then followed her daughter, Mrs. Shoup, in 1891. Mrs. Wood died in the full triumph of a living faith and has gone to meet her God and dwell with Him in peace.
Mother Wood has been in poor health for over a year, yet she never complained, but was always patient and cheerful. In her family she was a true and faithful companion, a kind and loving mother. As a neighbor her words of comfort, good will and cheer were always appreciated and she was held in the highest esteem by all who knew her. She leaves a brother, sister three children and a large circle of friends to mourn her loss.
The funeral took place from the house at 11:00 a.m. Sunday, Rev. Nicholson conducting the services, and the remains were interred in the home cemetery. The bereaved ones have the sincere sympathy of the entire community in their sad loss.
