"Mrs. Rose Mattingly, 78 years old, widow of James T. Mattingly, died Saturday afternoon at her home, York and Fourth Streets, following a protracted illness. She was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Peter Topper, pioneer settlers of New Baltimore, Bedford County, PA. where she taught school, prior to her marriage in 1872. Mr. and Mrs. Mattingly resided about twenty-five years at Cook's Mills, before moving to Cumberland, in the late nineties. Mr. Mattingly who conducted a store and meat market on York Street, died in 1914. She is survived by eight children: Mrs. Fred Grabenstein, Miss Margaret Mattingly, Henry Thomas Mattingly, Mrs. William Breighner, Michael Mattingly, Francis DeSales Mattingly and Miss Helena Mattingly, all of this city, and James E. Mattingly, of New York. She also leaves the following step-children: Mrs. Rose Mason and Bernard Mattingly, this city, Alphonsus Mattingly in the West, and Sister Mary Joseph Mattingly, of the Ursuline Order, Kansas. Twenty-three grandchildren and four great grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be held at 9 o'clock tomorrow morning, with religious mass at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Interment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery."
