Jessie Lorene Beaver, of Groesbeck, passed away at the Limestone Medical Center, on Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at age 100.

Visitation will be Wednesday, May 19, 2010, from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Groesbeck Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, May 20, 2010, at the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel, with Brother Richard Williams and Brother Charles Daily officiating. Burial will follow at Fort Parker Memorial Park.

Jessie Lorene Andrews was born on January 23, 1910, in Robertson County, to Jessie and Verna (Brown) Andrews. Being the first of seventeen children, she learned to bake biscuits for the family breakfast at age 8. In her early years, she plowed with a team of mules along side of her father. The family moved to Limestone County, where she was educated, met, and married Alton Napoleon (Buddy) Beaver.

They were married August 23, 1929, at the Presbyterian Church by Mr. R. G. Hill. They had been married 59 years at the time of his death on May 30, 1989.

Lorene and Buddy lived in a tent in the river bottom, on various farms in Limestone County, and finally on the farm in the Fort Parker area where the Stone barn is now located.

Their daughter Alta was born in Tehuacana, but moved to Groesbeck at two weeks of age. Their son, Morris was born 3-1/2 years later on the "Priddy" place about two miles west of his present home.

Together Buddy and Lorene farmed, baled hay, raised cattle, drove school buses, and were rural mail carriers. After he had a stroke, she continued as his caretaker, feeder of their cattle, and in her job as rural mail carrier for 16 years.

Some broken bones curtailed his care at home, and Buddy's last years were spent at Park Plaza Nursing facility. Lorene gave up farming and moved to her house in town, although she continued gardening and canning. After her retirement, tending great grandchildren became Lorene's vocation, well into her eighties.

Being baptized in 1957 began her life as a Christian. She enjoyed worship until the week after her 100th. birthday. A birthday luncheon was held to honor Lorene's 100th. birthday at the Church of Christ in Groesbeck on the 24th. of January this year, well attended by her family, church family, and many friends. She received hundreds of birthday cards before and after her special day. Some days later, Lorene fell at home and this started the decline of her independence. On April 2, she fell again and was taken to the local hospital and then to Groesbeck LTC Nursing facility.

On Tuesday, May 18, she died quietly and peacefully at Limestone Medical Center at 3:00 P.M.

The family is greatful for her "century" in her own home and matriarch of the family.

Lorene was preceded in death by her parents; 5 brothers; 5 sisters; and two grandsons, John Alan Stone, and Stevan Kyle Stone.

She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Alta and B.K.
