Cornelius Plakke, 101, formerly of 229 Howard Ave., died Monday evening , Feb. 1, in a local nursing home.
Born in Holland, he had lived on the city’s north side all his life.
Before retiring, he worked for Holland-Racine shoe Co. for 35 years and also worked for Beechwood School for 15 years.
He was the oldest member of Beechwood Reformed Church.
He and his wife, Lena, who is 100, marked their 79th wedding anniversary last fall. They were married Nov. 25, 1908.
Surviving besides his wife, Lena, are two daughters, Mrs. Harry (Alma) Baker of Holland and Mrs. Ben (Marjorie) Smith of Kewadin; a son, Clifford Plakke of Holland; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Bernard (Jeane) Plakke of Midland; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Dykstra Northwood Chapel, 295 Douglas Ave., with Dr. David Breen officiating. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.
No visitation is scheduled. Memorials may be given to Beechwood Reformed Church.
