Michael Forster had been a soldier. He married Catherine Adolph of Reilingen, Baden. They came to America in 1847, accompanied by her brothers Jacob and Michael. (The Adolphs were Evangelicals.) Mary was born in 1848. The census of 1850 has them all and newborn John living in Chelsea. (The brothers left for Illinois soon after.) Daughters Clara and Elizabeth were born, and evidently mother Catherine died soon after. The census of 1860 has Michael, from Baden, with wife Adeline, 22, from France, with the four of Catherine’s children and Evaline, 2, and Catherine, 1. The Census of 1870 has him from Wurtemburg, with wife Magdalene, 36, from France, with Mary, 23, John 20, Elizabeth, 17, Evaline, 13, Katie, 11, Charles, 15, Edward, 9, and twins Alfred and Albert, 3 months.
