1) From 1896-1959, to become a citizen of the United States, an individual normally filed a "Declaration of Intention" (to become a citizen), and that had to be filed at least 2-years prior to applying for citizenship. The next step, was a naturalization hearing: at which, the candidate (and witnesses) either made oral statements or filed written petitions and affidavits - attesting to the applicant's character, worthiness to become a citizen, and the validity of statements - made to the court. If the judge found the applicant eligible to become a citizen, an oath was administered, and the individual renounced his former citizenship, or allegiances. At that point, a "Certificate of Citizenship" (sometimes called a "Certificate of Naturalization") was issued, documenting the facts. That's what Henry Labrie did, and for all the RIGHT reasons. So, logically, there should also be a record of his "Certificate of Citizenship" on-file in Seattle, WA., dated (about) 1939-or-1940.

- At the time of the creation of said document (1937)... Henry Labrie was residing in Washington state, as a farmer (with wife and their large family).
- Two (2) [of their eleven children, born from 1895-to-1921] were born in Rice Lake, Wisconsin; one (1) in [?name?], Alberta, Canada; eight (8) were born at, Saint Paul "Demetis" (St. Paul-des-Métis), a town in east-central Alberta, Canada. Some of that is very difficult to read, so I'm only about 95% sure of 1 or 2 of the place-names in Alberta.
- At the time of the creation of the document (1937), ten (10) of his children were living in WA.; and one (1) in Canada.
- Children [residences in 1937]: (1) in Seattle, King Co., (1) Carnation, King Co., WA.; (2) in Granite Falls, Snohomish Co., WA.; (1) in Preston, King Co., WA.; (5) in Woodinville, King Co., WA.; (1) in Volmer, Alberta, Canada. I'm about 98% sure of all of those place-names (also difficult to read).
- Labrie is indeed a French name (entered as his "race" - perhaps not exactly what was intended - but, in those days, almost ALL "French Canadians" were white).
- People of French origins tend to defend their ethnic origins with great vigor, and still do so.
- Born 1864, in Missouri, USA - but to French-Canadian parents (probably from Quebec). Obviously, none had been naturalized, as Americans.
- Hence, Henry was British by nationality, because - at the time of his birth - Canada was not yet independent of Great Britain (not in 1864, not yet a Commonwealth either).
- He married in Rice Lake, WI. in 1894 (still as a, French-origin Canadian and British subject).
- He would NOT be able to lay-claim to being American by birth-right. That law was added later.
- His wife had been born American. Therefore:
- Their 11 children, born to the same American-born mother: in Wisconsin, or in U.S. territories, or Alberta - all were automatically Americans.
