Arthur G. Ames Succumbs At 88
Arthur G. Ames passed away Wednesday morning, Sept. 4, at 3 a.m. in the Potsdam Hospital where he had been a patient for 12 days.
Born in Canton Mar. 28, 1869, son of the late Julius and Mary Anne Haggerty Ames, he attended the local schools and Canton Academy. Mr. Ames married B. Elizabeth Desmond of Brasher Falls in 1890 at St. Patrick's Church, Brasher Falls. Mr. and Mrs. Ames lived on their own farm on the Judson St. Rd. for 60 years until the death of his wife. Since that time he made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Peter Murphy, Potsdam.
On August 4th, of this year a family reunion was held at the home of his granddaughter, Mrs. Glen Dawley, Canton, where 87 descendants were present. One son, Leo, passed away eight years ago. Survivors are four sons, Stanley, John, Charles, and Kenneth all of Canton; two daughters, Mrs. Peter (Vera) Murphy and
Mrs. Frank (Ethle) Cardinal, both of Potsdam. Several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held from the Kenneth Ames Home, Judson St. Rd., Friday, Sept. 6, with a prayer and a Requiem Mass at St. Mary's Church, Canton at 10 o'clock. Interment in a family plot at St. Mary's Cemetery, Canton. Arrangements was in charge of the O'Leary Funeral Home, Canton.
