A marriage license was issued last evening in favor of Armstead Smith, and Belle Shard (sic) (colored) both of Emporia.

Armstead Smith Dead.
Armstead Smith, colored, 910 East South, a retired Santa Fe employe[e], died Sunday morning at 4 o'clock in the Santa Fe hospital in Topeka. He had been sick with pneumonia four days. He entered the hospital Saturday morning.
The body will be bought to Emporia. Funeral arrangements have not been completed.
Mr. Smith was born in Tennessee. He came to Emporia with his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Smith, when he was a small boy. He had been retired from service on the Santa Fe railroad for a year, after having worked for the railroad for 18 years and two months. Mr. Smith married Belle Sharp on March 28, 1900 in Emporia. He was a member of the Mt. Olive A.M.E. church. He is survived by his widow; two daughters, Mrs. R.K. Fuller, of Kansas City, Mo., and Miss Julia Ann Smith, of the home; one grandson and other relatives.
