Our family pioneers - Mason and Harrell - faced many hardships as they traveled by wagon across the country to La Center in the early 1870s. The Masons came from Minnesota and the Harrells came from Indiana. In 1887, Belle Harrell and Levi Mason married. Levi homesteaded on both sides of Mason Creek, farmed and ran a sawmill. G.W. Harrell served as a Road superintendent in the La Center area including Oak Dale Hill for several years. Nora Mason died of whooping cough soon after arriving in the Northwest. We respect our brave, adventurous ancesters.
