He was the son of Robert Temple (1788-1870) & Mary Davis (1794-1854). He enlisted in the army in 1861 when the Civil War began, and served for four years in Co. C, 63rd Reg., Pennsylvania Vol. Following the war he married, first, Mary Somerville, no children, and second, Nancy McElheney, they had six children: Sheridan,John,Martha,Mary,James,George(died in infancy). They lived on a farm along Temple road in Moon(now Center) Twp. James died as a result of injuries suffered in a fall from a wagon at age fifty four. His brother Anderson(Andrew)Temple was killed in the war.
