The son of Robert S. & Mary (Plaice) Anderson, he married Rosanne Ebersole and fathered Sarah C. (b. 12/23/63 - married William Frank), George H. (b. 04/19/66), William R. (b. 1870), Lillie (b. @1876), Mary A. (b. 05/??/77), Frank (b. 02/??/79), Jacob H. (b. 07/??/81), and John (b. 08/??/85). He does not appear in the 1860 census but in 1870 was a pudler living in East Pennsboro Township, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. He stood 5' 7" tall and had black hair and dark eyes.

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted and mustered into federal service at Harrisburg August 15, 1864, as a private with Co. D, 201st Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company June 23, 1865.

Patriot, Thursday, March 30, 1911:
West Fairview, March 29 -- George Anderson died yesterday morning at the home of his son-in-law, Milton Smeutzer [sic], State road, West Fairview, of heart disease, aged seventy-two years. Mr. Anderson had been in his usual health until Monday forenoon when he began to complain of pain in the region of the heart and this morning at 9 o'clock died. He was an old soldier and fought during the war in Company D, 201 regiment, Pennsylvania volunteers. He leaves one brother, Edward Anderson of West Fairview, and five children, George H., Chester and Miss Alva, of Harrisburg; Mrs. Lilly Grove of Steelton, and Mrs. Milton Smeltzer, and a number of grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. in St. Mark's Lutheran church, of West Fairview, and will be in charge of Rev. A. G. Wolf. Interment will be made in the Enola cemetery.
