Elizah Zimmers was about twenty-four and Rosina Unknown was about sixteen when they married about 1866 in Vermont.

The 1870 census revealed Elias was a farm laborer and his mother, Maria was living with them in Orwell, Addison County, Vermont. Elias was born in Vermont. Rosina and their daughter were born in New York. Household members: Elias (33), Rosina (26), Rose (2) and Maria Lewis (70).

The 1880 census revealed they were living in Clay, Onondaga County, New York. Elias was born in Vermont and his parents were born in Minnesota. Rosiner and her parents were born in New York. Household members: Elias (47), Rosiner (38), Rose (12), Lucinda (10), Elias (6), William (4) and Fred (2).

The 1900 census revealed Elias was a day laborer and could not read or write. He was living with his son, William and wife in Lysander, Onondaga County, New York. Elias was born March 1830 and had been married twenty-eight years. Household members: Eli (70), William (25) and Ida (19).
