Boyd was the second son of Henry E. and Gertrude (Donnell) Bonner. He graduated from the KY Military Institute in 1910 and moved to Desha Co., AR sometime thereafter. In that place Boyd owned and operated a billiard hall. He married LaDelle Allen Nov. 29, 1914 in Drew Co., AR and to this union was born, on the couple's first anniversary, a son, Elliott Allen Bonner.

The Bonners were living in Fort Worth, TX in 1920, Boyd working on an oil rig. By 1930, LaDelle was the manager of a hotel in Memphis, TN, and their son Allen was living with his grandmother in the Allen House in Monticello, AR. (This house later was considered to be "the most haunted house in the US.")

LaDelle Bonner was granted a divorce from Boyd in AR in 1927, moving into the Allen House where she remained until her tragic death in 1949.

Boyd appears to have relocated in Los Angeles, CA during the 1930s, where he died June 1, 1948. It is probable that he was buried in CA, but no record has been found to date.

The memorial in Springhill cemetery appears to have been erected in memory of Boyd and E. Allen Bonner. It is known that E. Allen actually was buried in Monticello, AR.
