History - James was an apprentice in the cutlery business in Sheffield, England. James and Rebecca they heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints preached, which struck them very forcibly, and after much careful study in comparing the doctrine with that taught by Christ or with the Church of Jesus Christ of former days, they were both thoroughly convinced that it was the right one. They quit the Methodist Church. They remained firm and steadfast to the last, never regretting or wishing for anything better. After they decided to come to America, they began to save money for this purpose.
