Vital DeBelle, 55, Succumbs to Heart Attack at Harvester
Vital DeBelle, 55 years old, 1401 Eighteenth avenue, succumbed to a heart attack shortly before 10 o’clock this morning, while at work in the yards of the Deere Harvester works. He was laboring with other men at the time, when he fell to the ground, dying before he could be carried to the first aid room.
Vital DeBelle was born in Belgium July 13, 1876. He came to America and settled here in 1912. His wife preceded him in death before he came to this country.
A daughter, Mrs. Mary Lampo of this city, and a son, Alidor, of South Bend, Ind., and two brothers, Alidor, St. Charles, Ill., and Frank of Mishawaka, survive. A daughter, Hortense, was killed six years ago in a railroad crossing accident at Fifth street.
DeBell had been employed as a laborer for the Harvester company for about two years. In recent months he had been working at the local plant one day a week. He came to work this morning apparently in good health. About 10 o’clock he collapsed and a short time later was pronounced dead by Dr. J.P. Johnston, who was called to examine him.
According to his daughter, Mrs. Lampo, DeBelle had been attended by a physician for a heart ailment for some time.
The body was removed to the VanHoe undertaking parlors where it will remain pending funeral arrangements.
