Leland S. "Lee" Williams, 83, of Pekin passed away at 3:40 p.m. Saturday, June 12, 2010, at Pekin Hospital.

Born April 24, 1927, in Pekin to Lloyd and Pauline (Spaulding) Williams, he married Joan Scheiderer on June 18, 1950 in Pekin. He later married Carol Bagley on Oct. 30, 1992, in Pekin. She survives.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Betty Frankenstein.

Lee served in the United States Navy as a pilot and a flight instructor, retiring after 23 years. He served in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.

He was the longest serving executive director of the Pekin Area Chamber of Commerce from 1970 to 1984. During his tenure, he started the Pekin Marigold Festival and served on its first committees. He later worked for the State of Illinois Department of Commerce and Community Affairs as the northern supervisor for JPTA from 1987 to 1992. From 1992 to 1995, he was the City of Pekin economic development coordinator, and later volunteered with SCORE.

Lee was a former member of the Pekin Country Club, Sunset Hills Country Club, Pekin Elks Lodge 1271 and Roy L. King Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1232. He was a former member and president of the Kiwanis Club in Pekin. He was a current member of the Pekin Moose Family Center 916.
