The only personal detail I've ever known about LUCY, is a story that Aunt Esther (Cronk) Satterlee told me. I guess Levi and Lucy didn't have a farm of their own. They'd move around, living with each of their sons for a while. Lucy was quite a gossip and as they lived with each family, she'd let her tongue wag about all their personal lives and details. At Lucy's funeral, while she was laying there in her coffin, one of her sons turned to another and said, "Well, now maybe she'll keep her damn mouth shut!" Sad to say, but that's the only story about Lucy's character that has survived. ~~Mike Cronk, 2X-gr-grandson

Prior to marrying Levi Cronk, Lucy was married to JAMES HENRY SHERIFF who died in New York State. They had a son, FRANK or FRANKLIN HENRY SHERIFF, who came to Michigan with Levi and Lucy (Curtis) Cronk in the 1850's. I also know very little about Lucy's own family. On her death certificate it states that she is the daughter of DANIEL & LUCY L. CURTIS. Lucy is shown living with DANIEL & SALLY CURTIS in East Bloomfield, Ontario Co., NY, during the 1850 Census. I also know that Lucy had an older sister, EMALINE CURTIS who married LEVI BARNHART. Emaline & Levi Barnhart are also buried in Riverside Cemetery in Hastings, Michigan. To see Emaline Barnhart's 'Find A Grave' memorial, go to: EMALINE CURTIS BARNHART (1823-1906) According to Emaline's death certificate, she is the daughter of DANIEL CURTIS & SARAH NELSON. Both Lucy and Emaline's death certificates have Daniel Curtis being born in CT and their mother being born in VT.
