Born June 13, 1922, in English, W.Va., he was the son of the late Calaway W. and Lottie Miller Blankenship.
Mr. Blankenship was a retired coal miner, having worked for Eastern Associated Coal Company, and a member of The First Church of God of Oceana.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife and the mother of his four children, Grace M. Blankenship; his second wife, Betty Potts Blankenship; and two brothers, Sampy Daniel (SD) and Franklin.
Those left to cherish his memory are a son, Gary E. Blankenship and his wife, Diana, of Clearfork; three daughters, Phyllis A. Boyd and her husband, Randall, of Hernshaw, Delores Blankenship of Ormond Beach, Fla., and Debra E. Jeffery and her husband, Roger, of Zephyrhills, Fla.; four sisters, Eula Bailey of Clear Fork, Helen Toler of Danville, Elga Short of Clear Fork and Glenna S. Childress of Spotsylvania, Va.; a brother, Walter C. (W.C.) Blankenship of Clear Fork; seven grandchildren, Michael Boyd and wife, Saundra, of Midland, Mich., Melanie Cobb and husband, Brad, of Fredericksburg, Va., Janice Seacrist and husband, Brad, of Cabin Creek, Shawn Jeffrey and wife, Lisa, of Tampa, Fla., Christopher Jeffrey and wife, Xiomara, of Orlando, Fla., Elizabeth Harman and husband, John, of Waynesboro, Va., and Melissa Castle and husband, Jimmy (Buck), of Abingdon, Va.; 11 great-grandchildren, Anthony, Brandon and Shawn Jeffrey Jr., of Tampa, Fla., Mathew, Samantha and Lauren Cobb of Fredricksburg, Va., Zach and Tyler Seacrist of Cabin Creek, Abigail Boyd of Midland, Mich., Makenna Castle of Abingdon, Va., and Alec Harman of Waynesboro, Va.; several nieces and nephews; and a host of family and friends.
A celebration of Mr. Blankenship's life will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 13, 2009, at Adam Toler Memorial Chapel with the Rev. William Wagner officiating. Burial will follow in Blankenship Family Cemetery at Clear Fork.
Casketbearers will be family and friends.
