"Charles Barton Died September 14"

Charles L. Barton, age 81, of Jellico, died at Jellico Hospital Saturday, September 14. Mr. Barton had been a resident of Jellico for more than fifty years, coming here from Leitchfield, KY in the early nineties to accept a position in the local railroad offices where he remained until the Jellico Grocery Company was organized, when he left the railroad company to accept a position with the newly organized company. He remained with the grocery company for many years. Later he was with the Interstate Grocery Co., and also operated the drug store located on the State line for some time. He retired from active duty several years ago. Mr. Barton was a faithful and devoted member of the Presbyterian Church and seldom failed to attend all services. Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian Church in Jellico at 3 p.m. Sunday, with the Rev. Henry Dawson, minister, officiating, assisted by Rev. Hogue Smith, Presbyterian minister of Charlotte Courthouse, Va., and Rev. William Davis, minister of the Christian Church of Jellico. Interment was in Jellico Cemetery. Ellison Funeral Home in charge. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Vola Hodsdin Barton; one daughter, Mrs. Oscar Nicholson, Williamsburg, Ky.; four sons, Harold of Clinton, Paul of Detroit, Mich., Robert of Clinchmore, Tenn., and Charles of Cleveland, Ohio; one sister, Mrs. Mabel Stone of Leitchfield, Ky.
