In 1917, he worked as a clerk in the Detroit Club and supported his mother. He was of medium height and build with blue eyes and dark brown hair, partially bald. In 1930, he was living at the Strathmore Hotel in Detroit and working as a property manager. Bennett was single and had a high school education.
