Peggy Joan Rand Smith of Midland, Texas passed away on Thursday, May 10, 2005 at Midland Memorial Hospital. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am Friday, May 13, 2005 at the Groesbeck Church of Christ in Groesbeck, Texas with Richard Williams, minister officiating. Visitation will be held at the Groesbeck Funeral Home between 6:00 and 8:00 pm Thursday, May 12, 2005. Interment will follow the church services at the Faulkenberry Cemetery, Groesbeck, Texas.
Peggy was born on May 2, 1937 in LaSalle, Texas to Garvin B. and Elna C. Rand. She was raised in Groesbeck graduating from high school there in 1955. She met her husband, Thomas G. (Tommy) Smith in October of that year and they were married on March 18, 1956 in Groesbeck.
She enjoyed cooking, gardening, house decorating, her dogs, and traveling. She frequently traveled with her husband Tom, in his business, all over the U.S.
Survivors include her husband, two sons, Randy Smith of Odessa, TX and Bob Smith of Midland, three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She further is survived by three brothers, Randall Rand of Groesbeck, Billy Tom Rand of Beaumont, TX, and Glendale Rand of College Station, TX and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by both of her parents and by a brother, Jimmy Joe Rand of Sugarland, TX.
Pallbearers will be her nephews, Doug, Don, Ricky, Mark, Scott, Rex, Casey, and Gary Rand and Bill Smith.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Lupus Foundation of America, 2000 L St. N.W., Suite 710, Washington DC, 20036-4916 and/or the American Cancer Association, P.O. Box 102454, Atlanta, GA 30368-2454.
