BRANDON MAN DROPS DEAD WHILE CLEANING SNOW AND ICE OFF ROOF

BRANDON - February 6, James Abbott, aged 74, a retired framer drooped dead here yesterday afternoon while shoveling ice and snow off the roof of his home. Heart failure from over exertion was the cause. A neighbor who say him fall rushed to his aid but death followed in a few minutes. The first Mrs. Abbott (Phoebe A. Mitchell) died in 1927 and Mr. Abbott married to a sister-in-law (Mrs. Emily Olds Abbott). Three sons and two daughters survive.

J. I. ABBOTT SUCCUMBS TO HEART DISEAS; WAS RETIRED FARMER
Brandon, Iowa, February 7 - Accumulation of snow on the roof of James Isaac Abbott's residence here was indirectly the cause of his death, exertion of shoveling it off bringing on a heart attack from which he died before he could be brought to the ground.
Mr. Abbott was the oldest of 14 children born to Mr. and Mr. Loyal Chauncey Abbott and was born at Lacon, Illinois on February 8, 1853. The family moved to Iowa when he was 3 months old, settling in the north part of Benton County, about six miles southwest of here.
He married Phoebe A. Mitchell on December er 24, 1874 and they resided on a farm in that vicinity until about ten years ago, when they moved to Brandon. She died some years ago.
Five of their nine children survive; Arthur and Charles, Portland, Oregon; frank, Independence, Iowa; Mrs. Dora M. Love, Peshastin, Washington, and Mrs. Arthur Hills, Waterloo. An adopted daughter, Mrs. Clausen, Cherokee, and a brother, George, Independence, also survive.
He was married on July 2, 1928 to Mrs. Emily Abbott, Mallard, who survives. His death occurred Tuesday.
