Parents' names unknown. Married (1) Elizabeth Pierce, on December 31, 1832, after her first husband, Griffith Wilkins, died in 1827; (2) Harriet Elizabeth Wilson in 1854.

In 1840 Miles and Elizabeth Linton were living in Henderson County, Tennessee. Their family of 6 would have included the 2 adults, Elizabeth's 2 living children from her first marriage, and the couple's 2 children, Elisha (b. 1833) and Mary Elizabeth Linton (b. 1835). In 1850 Miles, 40, and Elizabeth Linton, 52, and children Sarah Wilkins, 26, Elisha Linton, 17, printer, and Mary Linton, 16, were listed in Lauderdale County, Mississippi. Elizabeth's daughter Sarah Wilkins had been born in North Carolina, and the 2 Linton children were born in Tennessee.

Daughter Mary Elizabeth Linton married Lafayette John McInnis (# 59488199) on January 19, 1853. A month later, 54-year-old Elizabeth Pierce Wilkins Linton died. A brief obituary appeared in the Nashville Christian Advocate: "ELIZABETH LINTON born Camden Co., N.C., 1798; md Griffin Wilkins, June 3, 1822 and he later died; md Miles Linton, Dec. 31, 1832; died Lauderdale Co., Miss., Feb. 18, 1853." Later that same year, their son Elisha Linton married Martha A. Dearman, on September 8, 1853, in Lauderdale County, Mississippi.

In September of the following year, 1854, Miles Linton, age 43, married Harriet Elizabeth Wilson Pickett, 32. Harriett also had been married previously, to Daniel L. Pickett, by whom she had a son, Louis Berry Pickett, born 1839. By 1860 the couple were living in Shubuta, Clarke County, Mississippi, with their children Joseph B., 5, George Washington McInnis, 3, and Sarah Margaret, 2. Miles gave his occupation as shoemaker. Miles's older daughter Mary Elizabeth Linton McInnis had had 3 children, and she and her oldest child had died in October 1857, a few months after the birth of her third child. Miles's step-daughter Sarah Wilkins, 33, was living in 1860 with Mary Elizabeth's husband, his new wife, and the small children, along with other people. Sarah would die herself in 1864, and Miles's 3 little children with Harriet died within days of each other in 1862. Son-in-law Lafayette McInnis was at war, serving as 1st Lieutenant in Company A, 37th Regiment, Mississippi Infantry.

By 1870 Miles and Harriet had moved to Meridian, Lauderdale County, Mississippi, where they were living with children Eliza A., 9, Andrew M., 7, and Harriet E., 4. Miles, 59, was a farmer, and also in the household was Monroe Gay, a 10-year-old black child working as a farm laborer. Daughter Eliza Angeline "Angie" married George Henry Oliver Smith in 1879. In 1880 Miles, 69, again listed as farmer, was living with wife H. E., 59, and children A. M. [Andrew Miles], 17, and E. H. [Harriet Ellen], 14. By this time, Miles had a number of grandchildren, offspring of his son Elisha, as well as the 2 surviving McInnis children.

Daughter Harriet Ellen Linton married Louis Smith on December 17, 1882, and son Andrew Miles Linton married George Ann Kornegay on January 7, 1891. Miles' wife Harriet died in 1897.
