Later that same year, their son Elisha Linton married Martha A. Dearman, on September 8, 1853, in Lauderdale County, Mississippi.
In September of the following year, 1854, Miles Linton, age 43, married Harriet Elizabeth Wilson Pickett, 32. Harriett also had been married previously, to Daniel L. Pickett, by whom she had a son, Louis Berry Pickett, born 1839. By 1860 the couple were living in Shubuta, Clarke County, Mississippi, with their children Joseph B., 5, George Washington McInnis, 3, and Sarah Margaret, 2. Miles gave his occupation as shoemaker. Miles's older daughter Mary Elizabeth Linton McInnis had had 3 children, and she and her oldest child had died in October 1857, a few months after the birth of her third child.
