Edward emigrated from Prussia(Poland/Russia) in 1909. His passage was paid by his cousin, Emil Spletzer of Chicago. Edward's father's name was Gottlieb Spletzer. When Emil Spletzer and family moved to Engadine, Michigan, Edward came as well and bought a small farm there, where he lived for the remainder of his life. While living in Engadine, he was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.

There is some discrepancy for his birth year and place of birth. His WWI registration says he was born 1-22-1889 in Psadetz, Russia and his WW2 registration says he was born 1-22-1888 in Lutzunova, Poland. His death index states: "1889". His 1930 census says he was born in Poland.

During WWI, Edward served in the Army as a PFC in Company F 14 Ammunition Train.

He never married. He liked to fish and hunt and he raised rabbits.
