Macon, GA-Edward Abbott, age 85, passed away on Wednesday, May 12, 2010. Funeral services will be private. The family will greet friends Friday, May 14, 2010 from 7 to 9 PM at Crest Lawn Funeral Home.
Mr. Abbott was born in Denison, Iowa to the late Ed and Sadie Bartlett Abbott. He was an engineer and his career in the TV cable communications industry took him all over the United States and eventually brought him to Macon. Mr. Abbott was a Navy SEAL and a Navy fighter pilot in World War II where he flew over 300 missions, receiving numerous combat awards. He enjoyed woodwork and making wind chimes in "Ted's Shed". He would set up booths and display his wood chimes at The Cherry Blossom Festival and at Christmas in the South. Mr. Abbott was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and Altergate CIA (Citizens In Action), and the Macon Fine Arts Club.
Mr. Abbott is survived by his wife Sue Abbott of Macon; children Mark (Kathi) Abbott of Parkersburg, West Virginia, Michael (Lori) Abbott of St. Petersburg, Florida, Connie Abbott of Macon, Cheryl (Larry) Harris of Macon, Susie (Tap) Nelson of Macon, Jimmy Pliley of Washington State, Tina (John) Upshaw of Macon, Randy Lanthrip of Macon, Joshua (Courtney) Lanthrip of Macon, and Snap Lanthrip of Macon; sister-in-law Darlene (Mac) Cronin of Jackson, Georgia; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren with one on the way.
