The Rev. Obie Gene Rich, 71, of 1782 2nd Road, died Wednesday, September 23 1999, in his home.

Services will be held Saturday, Sept. 25, at 11 a.m. in the Union Funeral Home, West Frankfort, with the Rev. Clyde Dilman officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery, Thompsonville. Friends may call after 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

He was born on Dec. 5, 1927, the son of Obe and Cleo Rich. His wife is the former Hazel Hawkins, whom he married Nov. 19, 1953, and she survives.

He was a minister for 50 years. He also served in the U.S. Air Force and was a retired miner from Freeman 34 Mine.

In addition to his wife, Hazel, he is also survived by three sons, Gary and wife Laura Rich of West Frankfort, David and Linda Rich of West Frankfort, Jim and Monica Rice of Mulkeytown and two daughters, Donna and husband Dennis Sminchak of West Frankfort and Betty and husband Bob Caraway of West Frankfort; eleven grandchildren, Gabe Rich, Kyle Rich, Misty Rich, Devan Rich, Christina Rich, Jackie Rich, Courtney Rich, Jordyn Sminchak, John Caraway, Matt Caraway and Timmy Caraway; two brothers, Burrell and Jerry Rich; five sisters, June, Gladys, Mary, Bonnie, and Shirley.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, William "Len", Earl Dean, Charlie and a half brother Jim Goad.
