Mrs. Stenger Dies Sunday; Services In Baptist Church
Services for Mrs. Julia Stenger, known by her many friends as "Ma," were at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Baptist church with Rev. Harry Hubbard and Rev. Roy C. Rowlan officiating. Burial was in the Carnegie cemetery. Arrangements were in charge of the Pitcher Funeral home.
Mrs. Stenger died at 12:30 p.m. Sunday in the Carnegie hospital where she had been a patient since Jan. 21. She had been ill since last November.
Julia Florence Harding was born at Fort Mitchell, Va., Jan. 18, 1890. She moved with her parents to Lowry City, Mo., and from there they came to Oklahoma in December, 1907, and settled near Apache.
She was married to Henry Edward Stenger Dec. 16, 19089, near Apache by the late Rev. W.A.R.Lovell, Christian minister. In 1910 they moved to a farm in the Alden community. For the past 23 years she has lived in the Carnegie community. For nine years she operated a cafe, and thru her wide acquaintance acquired the name "Ma" Stenger. Mr. Stenger died March 19, 1952. She was converted and united with the Highill Baptist church in Lowry City in 1907.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Louise Monroe and Mrs. Florence Charles, Carnegie; three sons, Edward and Bill of Carnegie, and Alvin Stenger, Dallas; her mother, Mrs. E.R. Harding, Hydro; three sisters, Mrs. Dolly Balden, Enid; Mrs. Pearl Richards, Carnegie, and Mrs. Alice Murphy, Weatherford; eight brothers, Witt Harding, Irwin, Mo.; Cabell, Coville, Wash.; Ben and Rufus, Susanville, Calif.; Howard and Larry, Checotah; Sam, Ozark, Ark., and Kirt, Hydro, and six grandchildren.
All of the relatives were here for the funeral except three of the brothers, Cabel, Ben and Rufus.
