Brant Kreun, 94, Edgerton, died Tuesday, October 7, 2008 at Edgebrook Care Center.

Funeral services were held Monday, October 13 at Chandler Reformed Church, Chandler.

Interment was in the Chandler Cemetery, Chandler

Brant Kreun was born June 24, 1914 to Carl and Gertrude (Bruxvoort) Kreun on a farm near Ada, in Norman County. At the age of two and a-half his family moved to the Chanarambie Valley near Chandler, where his father broke sod and built a farm. He was baptized and professed his faith in the Chandler Reformed Church and attended country school. He worked with his father and brothers on the farm until purchasing his own.

He married Edna Eernisse on Sept. 20, 1938 and they made their home on a farm west of Lost Timber, near Chandler. In the early 1950s they moved back to his family's farm, where his wife died in 1959.

He married Julia In'tveld Rozeboom on Dec. 8, 1960 and they continued to make their home on the Kreun home place until moving to an earth home they built in Chandler in 1982, which was destroyed by the tornado in 1992.

In 2000 Brant moved to Edgebrook apartment sin Edgerton, as his wife, Julia, became a resident of the Edgebrook Care Center in Edgerton. He continued to live in the apartment, after Julia's death in 2001, until he then became a resident of Edgebrook Care Center in August of 2008.

He was active in the community of Chandler, where he assisted in the Chandler park development and maintenance, and the planting and caring for trees after the 1992 tornado. He was a past member of the Farm Bureau, the Dairy Herd Improvement Association and served on the Edgerton Creamery board. He served on the school boards of District #94 and the Chandler Christian School; was active in the Chandler Lions Club, Senior Citizens and repairing wheelchairs for Hope Haven. He was named Senior Citizen of Murray County of the Year in 1988 for those many community involvements.

He was also active in the Chandler Reformed Church, where he served on the Consistory, as well as numerous other committees and teaching positions. As church historian he translated over 30 years of Dutch-written church minutes to English.

He is survived by his two sons, Carl (Julie) Kreun, Sioux Falls, S.D. and Glen (Joann) Kreun, Lake Forest, Calif.; 12 grandchildren 26 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Henry (Ruby) Kreun, Candler and Chuck (Kathy) Kreun, Otsego, Mich.; six sisters, Jo Pals and Durky Baar, both of Edgerton; Jan Schenk, Artesia, Calif.; Caroline Schierbeck, Holland, Mich.; Betty (Henry) VanEssen, Leota and Priscilla (Cliff) Christians, Champaign, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his two wives, Edna and Julia; two sons, John and Wayne; one brother, Bill and two sisters, Adriana Roelofs and Edith VandeBunte
