After receiving his literary education at the University of Prague, Captain Anton Neustadt emigrated to America and settled in Madison County, Illinois where he was a Notary Public.

He enlisted in Co. K, 144th IL Inf. at Alton, Illinois on 15 Nov. 1864 and was mustered out there on 14 Jul 1865.

After studying law he was admitted to the bar in 1867 and began his practice in Collinsville where he continued to reside.
