BENSON
Mrs. Abigail Benson died in Roseville, Tioga County, Pa., on Sunday, January 22, 1893, aged eighty-nine years and some months. She was born in Providence, Rhode Island, in 1803. Her maiden name was Abigail Sherman. She married John Benson in 1824, and they settled in Columbia Township, Bradford County, Pa., where she lived for twenty-three years. She battled with the hardships incidental to a pioneer life. In 1850 they located on Mill Creek, a mile above Roseville, and continued laboring to clear up the land and care for the children. She was very industrious and kind to all, and highly respected by all who knew her. She ended the battle of life at a good old age and died in the triumphs of living faith. She was the mother of seven children, two sons and five daughters. Charles, aged sixty-three, survives her; Benjamin is dead. Her daughters all remain to mourn their loss--Susannah P., Charlotte, Vinia, Ruth H., and Abigail A. She leaves twenty-nine grandchildren, forty-eight great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Her funeral was held in the Baptist church, assisted by the Rev. M. E. Rockwell, of the Methodist Episcopal church assisted by the Rev. C. H. Crowel, of the Baptist church. Her remains were laid to rest in the Roseville Cemetery.
