Susan Ann Melugin

Susan Ann Harmon, daughter of Milford and Mary Jane Harmon, was born May 30, 1855 in Indianapolis, Indiana, and departed this life at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ernie Craver at Exline, Iowa, September 14, 1944, at the age of 89 years, 3 months, and 15 days. She was the last of a family of ten children.

When but a young girl she moved with her parents to Henry county Iowa, where she grew to womanhood, and was united in marriage to Jobe Messer. To this union five children were born. She was preceded in death by her husband and two sons, Charlie and Reason Messer. The three children left to sorrow are, Mrs. Clara Craver, of Exline, Iowa, Mrs. Mary Edwards of Englewood, Colorado, and Milford, (Nick) Messer of Centerville, besides a number of grandchildren and a wide circle of friends.

In the year of 1911 she was married to Amos W. Melugin at Centerville, Iowa, and has made this city her home for the past forty two years, where she took an active part in church and other organizations. She was a member of the Women's Relief Corps for a number of years. She was preceded in death by Mr. Melugin who passed away April 15, 1931. Mrs. Melugin was known for her pleasing personality, and lasting smile which made her a host of friends wherever she was and will greatly miss her.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, September 16th, at the Johnson Funeral home at two o'clock, conducted by the Rev. Luther W. Childs, assisted by the Women's Relief Corps. Interment in the Oakland cemetery.

State Deaths MRS. A. W. MELUGIN

CENTERVILLE - Mrs. A. W. Melugin, 89, of Centerville died at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ernie Craver of Exline, where she had been for the last four weeks.

She was the oldest surviving member of the Women's Relief Corps here. She was Miss Susan Bradshaw (Burns) before her marriage, was born in Indiana, and was married to Mr. Messer. Four children were born to them. Her first husband died many years ago.

She later married Amos W. Melugin and he died April 15, 1931. One son is also dead. She leaves two daughters, Mrs. Craver and Mrs. Mary Edwards of Denver, Colo., a son, Milford (Nick) Messer of Centerville, who resided with his mother; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The body is at the Johnson funeral home here, where services will be at 2 p. m. Saturday in charge of the Rev. Luther Childs. Burial will be in Oakland cemetery.

Note: Susanna was the daughter of Milford Harmon and Mary Jane (Polly) Pennington. She married Job Messer on November 14, 1878 in Henry County, Iowa. He died April 6, 1890. Susanna married Amos Wilbert Melugin on June 19, 1911 in Appanoose County, Iowa.
