Mrs. H. H. Gregg Dead
Mrs. Rose Mitchell Gregg, widow of Col. H. H. Gregg of Joplin, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. T. F. Lennan, in Joplin Saturday. Mr. Gregg died two years ago. Mrs. Gregg has been in poor health since that time.
The Gregg family moved to Joplin in 1885. Prior to that time they had resided in Seneca for about 15 years. Mrs. Gregg, as well as her husband, was widely known throughout the district.
The above obituary was published in the Neosho Daily News August 2, 1919, page 1.
Rose's full maiden name was Rosabelle S Mitchell. Her surviving siblings were Charlotte E Mitchell [died at age 7]; John Francis Mitchell; Richard "Dick" Harlan Mitchell [his twin brother died as an infant of a few months of age].
Rose married Henry Harrison Gregg on September 1, 1870.
Notes:
In her father's biography of his family, he gives her birth year as 1850. That seems to be supported in the 1860 Federal census where her age is recorded as 10.
