Gerald M. Burns Sr., 69, of Birmingham died Tuesday. He was a World War II Veteran, a member of the First United Methodist church, Center Point and retired from the Social Security payment center. He was an employee of Dynamic Security Inc., charter president of Erwin High School Band Boosters and former member of the Center Point Civitan Club. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church, with burial in Douglas Cemetery, Douglas, AL
Survivors: Wife, Mrs. Sibyl Burns; son, Gerald M. Burns Jr.; daughter, Mrs. Nancy B. Kellum and Mrs. Mary T. Burns, all of Birmingham; sisters, Mrs. Vareda B. Jackson, Altoona, Mrs. Freda Jean B. Brown, Edwards, Miss, and Mrs. Bernice B. turley, Baytown, Texas.

Gerald loved gospel singing.You could always find him on a Sunday afternoon at a gospel singing. Singing had deep roots in his family. Whenever there was a family get-together at his parents home you did not leave until the family had gathered around the piano for a family singing.
I know, I was there.
Gerald could also tell you hair raising stories about his time serving in WWII.
