Johann moved again to Springfield, Illinois, USA in 1912 where he was met by his wife, six of his daughters, and his son.
Johann chose to Americanize his name to John when he moved to the US. He worked in the coal mines of Sangamon County, Illinois and was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church.
