Our father and mother are gone -
They sleep beneath the sod;
Dear parents, though we miss you much,
We know you rest with God.
Alexander Braden was born July 8, 1808 in Granger county, Tenn., in 1810. He was united in marriage to Miss Susannah Casey in 1829 and moved to Illinois in the fall of 1831. To their marriage was born six children, two of whom, Elikum and Permilia A., survive him. His companion passed over the shadow of death in 1872. He was a member of the Union Baptist church, accepting Christ in 1862, and faith was his anchor till death. He died February 27, 1899, aged 90 years, 7 months and 19 days.
I know thou has gone to the home of thy rest,
Then why should our souls be so sad;
I know thou art gone where the weary art blest
And the mourner looks up and is glad.
The pains of death are past labor and sorrow cease.
And life's long warfare closed at last, his sould is found in peace.
Rev. Henry Stellars, of Brown county, delivered the funeral sermon from the text "Except ye glorify Christ on earth, He will not glorify you in heaven." The funeral sermon was preached at the Sand Prairie Baptist church, Sunday, June 4. The remains were taken to the Newman cemetery, in Morgan county, for interment.
