Anna Stoddard was the daughter of Alex Stoddard who was born in Scotland and Gwendolyn (Gwenillian) Lewis who was b. in Wales. Anna was born in Illinois. She had three siblings: Catherine, b. 1869, Viola (Violet), b. 1872, and Mary, b. 1876, all in Illinois. Their mother died in Illinois in 1876, probably during child birth. By 1880, Alex with his daughters was living in Douglas, (Auburn), Nemaha, Nebraska & farming. He had a servant living in the home to care for the girls.
Anna married James "Frank" Copeland in 1891 and they had four daughters. They were, Mary J., b. July 1894, Mildred, b. July 1895, Ada M. "Addie", b. Feb. 1897, and Clara, b. June 1898. All were born in Douglas, Nemaha, Nebraska. After their mother died in 1902, it is believed the girls went to live with relatives in Iowa & Ohio. James was a teamster.
