He was born in Newark, N.J. Arthur was a retired U.S. Army master sergeant.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce; and children, William, James, Susanjoy and David.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 17, 2010, in Mountainview Christian Church, Gresham. Interment with military honors will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday, July 19, in Willamette National Cemetery. Arrangements by Neptune Cremation Service.

Gresham resident Arthur Lowe, 80, died Tuesday, July 13, at his home from cancer.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 17, at Mountainview Christian Church, 1890 N.E. Cleveland Ave. Interment with military honors will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, July 19, at Willamette National Cemetery, 11800 S.E. Mount Scott Blvd., Portland.

Arthur was born May 2, 1930, in Newark, N.J., Arthur and Ora Lowe.

Arthur enlisted in the Army and served in the Korean and Vietnam wars and with President John F. Kennedy's honor guard. He was also a member of the Old Guard. He received the Bronze Star and Army Commendation Medal. He retired as a master sergeant.

On Oct. 3, 1952, he married Joyce Tuhey in Providence, R.I.

Arthur worked as an auditor for the Department of Defense and as a farmer. He loved spending time raising chickens, cows and pigs on his farm in Goldendale, Wash. He moved to Gresham in 1993.

Arthur was a member of Mountainview Christian Church. He volunteered at Legacy Mount Hood Medical Center and was active in the Northwest Neighborhood Association. He loved to sing and spend time with his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife; sons, William Lowe of Ridgefield, Wash., James Lowe of Elizabeth City, N.C., and David Lowe of Eagle Creek; daughter, Susan Joy Baskoro of Gresham; brother, Dan Lowe of Clayville, R.I.; sister, Irene Rouseau of Rhode Island; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Neptune Cremation Service is handling arrangements.
