Herman arrived in Baltimore from Bremen, Germany on 28 Nov 1899 as a boy of sixteen on the SS München. He came with his parents, two sisters and their families, and a brother to join the group's two older sons already in Cleveland. He arrived in the US as "Herman Ewert". Exactly when he changed to the Americanized "Evert" is unknown. The US Federal Census recorded nearly this whole family as "Evert" even though some used it and others didn't. His oldest known brother, Julius, went farther and adopted the "Everett" variation.

Herman's surname was originally EWERT, but began appearing in records, such as the US Federal Census and World War 1 Draft Registration card, as Herman Evert, the phonetic pronounciation of his surname.

He is described on his WW 1 Draft Registration Card as --- height: 5' 5"; weight: 158 lbs; eyes & hair grey; complexion: ruddy; no other obvious physical characteristics.

In "Ohio, Deaths" Registrar's Certificate Number: 65039, Herman died in Garfield Heights, Cuyahoga, Ohio.

Parents: August Ewert and Wilhelmine [Unknown].

Siblings:
Julius Ewert / Everett
August Ewert / Evert
Elisabeth Ewert
Auguste Ewert
