Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Hawarden with Rev. Dean Shelly officiating. Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery at Akron. Visitation will begin at noon Wednesday with the family present from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden.
Daisy Bee Sayles was born to Frank and Minnie Bennett October 5, 1912 in Plymouth County, Iowa. She attended Sayles School, District #25 in Union county, Akron High School, and graduated from Cal State Fullerton with a degree in education in 1962.
Daisy married Vernon Sayles August 29, 1936, and taught country schools in Union County while Vernon farmed. They moved to Aberdeen, Washington in 1956, then to Whittier, California in 1957. Daisy taught in the Norwalk-LaMirada School District until her retirement. They moved to Hawarden in 1978.
Daisy loved teaching young children and being available to help her family. She enjoyed her social clubs in Hawarden: the United Methodist Women, Krafty Kats, Book and Thimble, and her Garden Club.
Some of her favorite things were catfish dinner at Cody's, fried chicken, country music, and crossword puzzles.
Daisy was preceded in death by her 3 sisters, 1 brother, her husband Vernon, and her son Vernon Eugene. She is survived by her daughters, Dianne Kluver of Salem, Oregon, and Cherie Hultgren of Ann Arbor, Michigan; also 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
