Professional Football Player. A standout guard for Villanova University, he was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the second round of the 1936 National Football League draft, the very first amateur draft ever held. He played for the Bears during the 1936 season, then moved on to the Washington Redskins for 1937. He helped the Redskins that year to an 8 and 3 record as they won the Eastern Division. In the subsequent National Football League Championship game against his former team, the Bears, he was part of the Redskins' 28 to 29 victory, as Washington won its first franchise Championship. Out of football for the next few years, he was deemed "4-F" by the United States military during World War II due to his being partially deaf, and he took the opportunity to join the NFL's "Steagles" team in 1943, which was the combined Pittsburgh Steelers-Philadelphia Eagles team, which played one year in that way due to most of their players being in military service. He played with the Eagles from 1944 to 1946 before retiring for good, having played in sixty two professional games.
