Monfort Bray was born December 4, 1862 in the Catskill mountains, N. Y. to William and Catherine (Shoemaker) Bray, also natives of the same place. Monfort Bray, was educated in the district schools of Ulster county, NY. In 1883, Monfort and his brother, Hilan, came to MT and settling in Rosebud valley as squatters, where they homesteaded 160 acres. They continued to add to their present ranch of 2,600 acres with an average herd of 300 shorthorn cattle and horses. Mr. Bray is a Republican. He was postmaster at Rasinski, from 1888 to 1893 when the office was discontinued. He is a member of the Forsyth Independent Order of Odd Fellows.
