Death Notice: Great Bend Tribune, Wednesday March 10-1926
Mrs Thomas Leek
The death of Mrs. Thomas Leek, one of the old settlers of the county occurred at 9 o'clock this morning at the home of her son, Frank Leek, where she had made her home the past two months. Since the death of her husband a number of years ago she has made her home the most of the time with her daughters, Mrs Deets, at Garfield, but came back here the first of the year. The change failed to prove beneficial as hoped for and she had gradually declined. Her children are Mrs. Deets, Mrs. D. E. Howard of Emporia, Frank and Starr Leek of this city. Mrs Frank Lorimor of Dodge City, James Lewis of Oakland, California. She was a woman who was loved by those who knew her, revered by her family, and her death will cause sorrow not only to the family, but to the large circle of friends.
The funeral services will probably be held Friday afternoon, March 12, from the Methodist Church of which she had been a life-time member . She was born in England and came to this country as a young woman. She was 85 years of age. An obituary will appear later.

obituary
The Great Bend Tribune, Thurs, March 11, 1926
Mrs Rachel Leek
Rachel Williams was born in Newport, England, of Welsh parentage, May 8, 1840. Died March 10, 1926, aged 85 years, 10 months and 2 days.
After the death of her parents, which occurred at an early age, her father dying when she was three months old and her mother when she was 8 years old, she went to live with an uncle and aunt and in 1852 came to America and settled in Clarksville, PA.
Sept 1, 1857, she was married to John J Lewis at Sharon, Pa. To this union one child was born, J J lewis, now residing in Berkeley, Calif.
Her husband died June 1, 1859. She was married to Thomas Leek, August 4, 1864, at New Castle, Pa. Later they removed to Mineral Ridge, Oh, then to Preemption, IL, and in March 1886, came to Kansas and settled on a farm northwest of Great Bend.
To this union were born nine children, five of whom are still living. They are Mrs D E Howard, of Emporia, Mrs P W Deets, of Garfield, Mrs F M Lorimor, of Dodge City, and Frank and Starr of Great Bend.
In addition to the children she leaves twenty-eight grandchildren and twenty-three great grandchildren.
Mrs Leek's has been a life of service pure and simple. Left an orphan at an early age and thus thrown to a great extend upon her own resources, she was deprived of early educational advantages and later on knowing in a large measure the cares, the hardships and privations incident to pioneer life and the raising of a large family, she was content just to be always busy in her home doing for others.
She was a member of the Methodist church, having joined about 27 years ago, and she died trusting implicitly in the loving kindness and mercy of her Heavenly Father. Surely the Righteous Judge will accord her a glorious entrance into that eternal rest prepared for the faithful.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 12, 15 2:30 pm in the Methodist Church.
