Albertina Larson, Leander's older sister, was the wife of Andrew Franzen, Swedish Counsel to Denver. Leander was the youngest of three siblings and his mother died shortly after his birth. Upon the death of his father, Albertina invited him and his brother August to come to America and join her. He met and married his wife, who also had emigrated from Sweden and they had a large family and lived in the North Dnever area. He worked in the mines in Silverton, CO, and was a farmer when at home in the Denver area (Welby, Globeville).
