Bernard Adolf Hestermann
Bernard Adolf Hestermann was born February 25, 1901, near Sterling , Nebr., and passed away at his home in Adams on May 18, 1968, at the age of 67 years, 2 months and 22 days.
He was the son of John and Antje Agena Hestermann. On March 3, 1901, he was received into God's Kingdom by the sacrament of Holy Baptism administered by Rev. Theo Hansjen. On April 11, 1915, he was confirmed by Rev. August Firnhaber at Immanuel Lutheran Church.
On October 28, 1934 he was united in marriage to Gertrude Spielmann at St. Paul Evangelical Church of Jansen by Rev. George Rath. This union was blessed with two children. They lived for 32 years on a farm three and one-half miles east and one mile north of Adams. In September 1966, they moved to Adams where he resided until the time of his death.
On June 9, 1966 he suffered a severe heart attack from which he never completely recovered. The past two weeks he had not been well and passed away suddenly Saturday evening.
He had been engaged in farming his entire lifetime until the time of his failing health. He was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, east of Adams all of his life and served on the church council for 28 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Fred and Louis; one sister, Margaret, and his son-in-law, LeRoy Schlake. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Gertrude; two children , son, Dennis of Sterling and daughter, Norma Jean Schlake of Adams; three grandchildren, Kent, Kaye, and Kendall Schlake; and one daughter-in-law, Joyce Hestermann; four brothers, Herman of Beatrice, Gade of Sterling, Henry and John of Adams; three sisters, Mr. Wm. (Lena) Laue of Tecumseh, Mrs. Herman (Rosa) Boden of Nemaha and Mrs. Martin (Bertha) Eilers of Sterling; father-in-law, Otto Spielmann of Harbine; many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
Prayer services were held Wednesday at 11:00 A.M. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church. Funeral services were held at the church at 2:00 P.M. conducted by Rev. Arthur Wittrock, pastor of the church. Mrs. Darrold Woodworth was the organist and Mrs. Harvey Giesman sang "Sleeping Jesus" and the congregation sang "What God Ordains is Always Good." Pallbearers were: Paul, Wayne, Marvin and Norman Hestermann , Robert Doetker and Darrold Weber. Internment was in the church cemetery.
